Darryl Wayne Willoughby 1952 – 2025
Darryl was born May 26, 1952, to Ted and Hilda Willoughby. A little brother for Dennis. He completed his high school education in Canwood and went straight to work, working in the Cookson County Pastures and Big River Pasture. He had a job out in Fox Creek, Alberta as well. He met and married Gloria Jean Gelette on August 9, 1975. They had two children, Dustin and Angela. He farmed alongside his dad for many years and also worked for the Department of Highways for 37 years, until he retired in 2012. He and Gloria were avid curlers and loved to go on road trips, auctions were also one of their past times. In the early 2000’s they decided to try their hand at being market gardeners. Darryl and Gloria continued this venture for 15 years until Gloria’s passing in 2020. Their daughter Angie and husband had taken over the gardening and continued to live with Darryl on the family farm and caring for him. His first pride and joy came in 2011 when his granddaughter Avery was born, she was the apple of his eye. Two of his favorite sayings were “its only money” and because his daughter Angie had a little white dog he would often say “don’t you know white dogs can’t jump”. He often said that sitting on the deck, whenever she tried to jump up on the patio furniture. Dad you will be missed dearly, and I know your legacy will live on.
