Darryl William Michayluk
(August 13, 1956 – November 17, 2011)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl after a brief battle with cancer. His family was by his side on the evening of November 17th, 2011.
He was a devoted husband to Eva (nee Perry) and that on the 26th of November, would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. He was a terrific father to his children and grandchildren – Dorothy Begrand (Darcy) daughters Haley and Rilyn; Angela Johnson (Peter) daughters Kaelyn and Brielle and stepson River; and Stu (fiancé Tareina Hunt); a wonderful son to Elsie (nee Kosmynka) and a great brother to Garnet, as well as Pat (Rob Boyko) Ryan, Brett, and Nic from Saskatoon. He also leaves his brothers-in-law and their families Clayton (Louann) Perry, Jim (Vivian) Perry, Rick (JoAnne) Perry and John Perry and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Bill, in 2002, and his mother-in-law Dorothy Perry in 2001 as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Darryl was born in Wakaw, Sask. on August 13th, 1956 and shortly thereafter the family moved to Prince Albert where he lived and raised his family. Although he worked for a couple of years in B.C. at the sawmills, and at Culligan in P.A., his career started at Weyerhaeuser in February, 1981 doing various jobs until he mastered as a steam plant engineer until his retirement there in 2004.
He continued with contract work in this field with several companies in Alberta and B.C. with Suncor being his present employer. Throughout his career Darryl worked with integrity and passion for a job well done, and gained the respect of co-workers, many of whom became lifelong friends. He was an extremely talented golfer who was very well known in that world as “Marsman” at the city's Cooke Municipal Golf Course. As a young golfer, he even had the rare opportunity to coach Phil Leaderhouse for a couple of years, the renowned blind golfer which allowed Darryl to travel North America to all of the tournaments Phil competed in.
He was very passionate about the game and won many prestigious awards and tournaments. He started at the age of 15 as a fierce competitor, winning the Junior Championship twice in a row, the Waskesiu Lobstick, the Mayday Masters twice, the Northern Amateur in Prince Albert and the Club Championship. He thoroughly enjoyed playing with the Syndicate, a men's group that played together throughout the season, especially when he won. He was well respected in the Sask. golfing community and will be sorely missed. Even when he took ill and was allowed a few day passes, he still wanted to drive by his beloved golf course for memory's sake. The golf course was his second home and the many competitors will remain his lifelong friends. To quote one of his dearest friends Ron Stewart “We had a love/hate relationship, we both loved golf and both hated to lose.”
Darryl was a wonderful family man and cherished the time spent with his kids and grandchildren, forever thankful that he got to hold the newest addition, Brielle, before his passing. He talked endlessly about those adorable girls and was so very proud of the accomplishments of his children. Upon reflection, they were blessed when Darryl and Eva took their family to Huatulco, Mexico in January 2011 for a beautiful family holiday – memories now they will cherish forever. We all helped him celebrate his 55th birthday and both he and Eva were excited and looking forward to retiring in December 2011 and would have enjoyed retirement and being proud business owners. He even bought himself the car of his dreams to celebrate all of his hard work.
We loved him so much, his illness and quick passing came as a shock to us all. His infectious laughter will be fondly remembered, but it is his integrity, his hard working values, and his unwavering commitment to family that are legacies that we will hold dear to our hearts. He had so much life to live – we guess God had other plans…Darryl, you are now with Dad as your caddy playing on the very best course. The entire family is so proud of all your accomplishments. We will love you Always and will miss you Forever.
Prayer service will be held at 7:00 Wednesday, November 24 from River Park Memorial Chapel – 301 River Street West, Prince Albert.
