Darryl Fredrick Valuck – late of Leask, SK passed away on December 21, 2013 in Leask, SK at the age of 67 years. Darryl was born December 31, 1945 into the home of Fred and Grace Valuck. He would be the first of four boys (Darryl, Mervin, Ben and Lorne) in this family. Darryl’s “growing up” years began in the Royal Lake-Avebury area West of Leask, eventually moving to the farm North of Leask, in the Bramshott District. Darryl started his education by home schooling, and then attended Avebury, Moulin and Leask Schools. Darryl farmed with his dad and brothers, enjoying recreational activities including hunting, fishing, hockey and ball; and hanging out with cousins and friends. In 1973, Darryl married Barb Ivanco, who had moved to Leask from Outlook. They bought and lived on a farm North of Kilwinning until moving to Leask in 2012. Darryl and Barb brought into the world two little girls, our nieces, Bobbi and Darla. Darryl was very proud of his girls “the kids”. Just a couple of weeks ago, while looking at pictures, a comment was made by someone about one of the girls, that “she was so cute.” Darryl spoke up and stated “she still is”. Bobbi married Jason Lafond. They have two boys, Malcolm and Brennan. Darla married Gerald Ivanochko and they have a son, Brendan and a daughter, Ashley. Darryl would routinely and appropriately report to us about “the kids” and “grandkids” whether it be their jobs, sports, activities, educational feats and other accomplishments; and sometimes the tough times they had been experiencing, expressing care and concern. This patriarchal care was also extended to nieces and nephews by dropping in to visit or a “random” phone call. Darryl and Barb, Barb and Darryl, however you say it, they go together. Barb, thank you for looking after our brother, loving him and together making a home that would sustain family and welcome friends. “Soup’s on” was often heard if you stopped in at “Darryl and Barb’s” near meal time. After farming for some time, Darryl began working for the R.M. of Leask (about 24 years ago), enjoying his work so much he was reluctant to consider retirement. As far as I am aware, he was still set to return to work this spring. A huge “Thanks” to family, friends, neighbours and community for your support and encouragement during this difficult time. Darryl will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Barbara Valuck; his daughters: Bobbi (Jason) Lafond and Darla (Gerald) Ivanochko; his grandchildren: Malcolm, Brennan, Brendan and Ashley; his mother: Grace (nee Barsi) Valuck; his brothers: Mervin (Judy) Valuck, Ben (Colleen) Valuck and Lorne (Donna) Valuck; as well as several nieces and nephews. Darryl was predeceased by his father: Fred Valuck in 1984; and his grandparents: Joe & Rose Barsi and Paul & Roselee Valuck. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 28, 2013 – 2:00 pm, Lions Hall, Leask, SK. Arrangements in care of Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel.
