In loving memory, the family of Darren Elliott Martsinkiw share his passing on July 25, 2025, in Prince George, BC. Darren was born in Prince Albert, SK, on September 27, 1968. He attended Arthur Pechey School, PACI, and Carlton Comprehensive High School where he was awarded the Heart Trophy for leadership and dedication qualities in sport and was a member of student council. During these years he also participated in local community sports. During summer breaks Darren worked at the Waskesiu Trail Rides and as a fishing guide at Wollaston Lake Lodge. Many years were spent at the family cabin at Lac La Ronge which provided skills in boating, water skiing, canoeing, and fishing.
Following one year at the University of Saskatchewan College of Arts and Science, he attended the University College of the Cariboo (UCC), Kamloops, BC, and graduated as a Respiratory Therapist. He then attained Fellowship with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists. Darren had an interesting and varied career as a Respiratory Therapist. He worked as a director, educator and practitioner in Saskatchewan hospitals and home oxygen and respiratory services in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, private practice, enjoyed several years as Respiratory Therapist in adult intensive care, and operated a sleep disorders clinic in a military hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He had a lifelong passion for fishing, finding peace and joy on the water, and reeling in the big ones. He was a loyal fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Senators. Game days were always filled with laughter, cheers and good times. Darren loved nothing more than sharing those moments with others. His sense of humour brought comfort during hard times and made happy times even better.
Above all, Darren was cherished as a husband to Darlene, a father to Jasmine (Cam), Mathew (Faith), David (Storm), Robyn (Stuart) and John, an uncle to Gabrielle, a grandfather to Brielle, Christian, Karma, Rena and Tobias, a son to Reg and Mary Lou, a brother to Joey (Lorna) and Dean as well as a friend to many.
Darren was a man whose presence made life brighter for everyone who knew him. He was known for his kind heart, quick wit, and unwavering generosity. Darren always made sure others were taken care of, whether family, friends, or even strangers in need. Helping people wasn’t something he did, it was who he was.
His love for family was steady and unconditional, and his legacy of kindness and laughter will live on in every life touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date.
