1939 – 2016
Sadly, on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, Darrell Hamilton passed away in his home surrounded by family. He was born January 5, 1939. Darrell worked for many years at Thorpe Bros. and spent the last 35 years until retirement working at The Victoria Union Hospital as Regional Director of Maintenance for the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region. Darrell started a home based business that he worked on his off hours, he loved shingling and home renovation work. He had that business his entire life and it is now run by his two sons who follow in his footsteps. Darrell was a hardworking man who always showed integrity and honesty in all he did. Everything he did was to benefit the wellbeing of his family. He loved people and especially loved his family. “Family is everything” is what he would say. Darrell loved the outdoors and often went berry picking, hunting, fishing and quading with his sons and grandchildren. His great grandchildren lit up his life and added a sparkle to his eyes. Darrell was a strong, determined man who wanted one last Christmas celebration with his family. He sat proudly watching his beloved wife, children, grand and great-grandchildren. He was in his element with all the hustle and bustle of his family around him. Darrell was very proud of his family as we were all extremely proud of our “Dad”. We are a truly blessed family to have had Darrell to love us and teach us. His generous, loving spirit will pass on for generations, through all who knew him. Darrell is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years Irene (his true soul mate); his daughter Barb (Kevin) Brandon and their children Jonathan (Legan), Andrew (Lisa), Timothy (Taylor); his son Archie (Tara) and his children Devon (Amber), Jade (Joey) Nagy and their children Lux and Dax; his son Neil (Trudy) children Casey (Brad) Landry, Jeremy (Anthony), Josh Zimmer, McKenzie and Madison; his daughter Sandy Hamilton and her children Darrellynn (Lenny) Gaudet and their daughter Anistyn, daughter Caitlin Owen (Clarke) and son Taylor Owen. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Shirley (Milt) Christianson; his nephew Craig (Shannon) Christianson and family, as well as very special nephew Blaine Christianson with whom dad took many special “Trips to Scotland”; his brother in law Jim (Nell) Gariepy and family; his sister Myrtle (Erich) Wetter and their sons Michael (Jennifer) and family, Steven (JoAnn) and family and Mark; his special niece Deb (Terry) Schriener and family; his nephew Artie (Carol) Hamilton and family; and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly. Darrell was predeceased by his parents Archie S. Hamilton and Rene (King) Hamilton; his brother Stuart Hamilton, his mother-in-law Barbara Gariepy and father-in-law Romuald Gariepy. Our lives have been forged by and forever changed by what Dad was to us. His legacy was to leave us strong enough to deal with the devastation of losing him and to grow from our anguish to become even better people than when he left us behind. We wait with anticipation till we are reunited. Until we meet again, “CHEERIO DAD”! Darrell’s life will be celebrated at River Park Funeral Home, Prince Albert at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016, with Pastor Nora Vedress officiating. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to River Park Funeral Home, 306 764-2727, Donald M. Moriarty, Funeral Director.
