Colin McLeod
1947 ~ 2025
Colin Torquil McLeod passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 78 years. Born August 15, 1947, in Saskatoon, SK, Colin lived a life full of laughter, intelligence, and generosity.
Colin’s childhood was spent in Marcelin, Blaine Lake, Melfort, and then finally Prince Albert. Once graduating from Tech High School, he was off to Saskatoon to study at the University of Saskatchewan, where he made his many lifelong friends. After returning to Prince Albert, he became deeply involved in the community, running the Elks Club, where he met his beautiful wife Doreen, and later opening the Carnival Bingo. Carnival quickly became a second home, and under Colin’s leadership it flourished. You could usually find him sitting at the front tables visiting with his customers and playing cribbage with his good friend Benny. We imagine that’s exactly what they’re up to now that they’ve been reunited.
A serious businessman with a secret heart of gold, Colin was known for helping others in times of need, never hesitating to share what he had. His sharp wit and outrageous sense of humor often got him into trouble, leaving those around him either belly laughing or shaking their heads. Quick-minded on top of his quick-wit, he seemed to know something about everything, he was his own encyclopedia of random facts. “Jeopardy smart,” as his family would say.
Colin adored animals, often seen with a little dog by his side, giving each other a sense of love and safety. He was also a natural with children, not having had any of his own until baby Mika was brought home. He immediately stepped up to the plate to raise her and be her Pa, a life altering event which softened that hard exterior of his. Colin was a very patient and understanding man when it came to supporting those he loved.
He leaves behind his wife, Doreen; his granddaughter, Mika, whom he proudly helped raise; his stepchildren, Vallerie, Deborah, and Jay; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Jenny, Zoe, Heidi, Roberta, Willomina, Saxon, and Fisher. He is also survived by his sisters, Sheila, Fiona; and brother, Neil, who lovingly helped care for him in his final years; his nieces and nephews, along with many friends he shared his best memories with.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Herb Bassett Care Home in Prince Albert for the care and compassion they provided to Colin in his final days.
The Celebration of Colin’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Alban Anglican Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK, with Fred Payton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan in Colin’s memory.
He will be missed beyond measure but remembered with endless love and laughter. Online condolences may be left at https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/riverpark/obituaries/colin-mcleod/147546.html . Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, (306) 764-2727, Carla Jesso, Funeral Director.
