We are deeply saddened to share that Colin Grant has passed away after a brief illness. Colin was cherished by his loving wife of 49 years Marg, his 4 children and 11 grandchildren: Carrie (Greg Walker), Hannah, Sarah; Kim (Matt Deutscher), Ty, ‘Max’, Ryan, Reese, Tate; Mackenzie (Matt Lambe), Brett, Lincoln, Trinity, Kennedy; Mitchell (Lindsay); his beloved dogs Webster and Wrigley. Colin was predeceased by his grandson Max Deutscher.
Colin’s life centred around family, and he excelled as a husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother and friend. His deep and infectious laugh, loving spirit and the twinkle in his eye would light up the room. You saw the twinkle most when he was around his children and grand-children and when he pondered what incredible feats that they were destined to achieve. Most of all, he loved his wife Marg and did everything with her. He loved and believed in people, was genuinely interested in them and would strike up lengthy conversations with anyone he met. His adventurous spirit took him on many journeys throughout his youth and later life and he would always re-tell stories that made you wonder how he had fit so much into his rich and colourful life. As a father and father-in-law, he was wise and helped his family navigate the happiness and hardships of life. His positive spirit and willingness to tackle any challenge made him the ideal counsel. In short, he was the rock in all of our lives and we are so sad to have to say good-bye. Colin was a skilled craftsman and excelled at any home renovation or repairs project that you threw his way. He was generous with his time and would spend days and weekends helping his children and their spouses with anything they needed. He liked teaching and would patiently take the extra time to show how things worked. He loved holidays and thrived at Halloween and Christmas time; this was natural for him and put him in a spot he was most comfortable; making kids and people smile. We have all learned so much from Colin. He has taught us how to laugh, how to cry, how to love. We are fortunate to have had such an amazing person in our lives. Our dad did everything he could to protect himself and his family from Covid, including being fully vaccinated. Despite this, so much was out of his control in the province of Saskatchewan because of uncontrolled community transmission. Everything he did to protect himself and his family wasn’t enough. We would like to thank the ICU nurses and doctors at RUH who are doing their very best to care for loved ones during these challenging times. A special thank you to Dr. Tanya Holt-Mellor who provided us with kindness, love and support throughout this difficult journey. Donations may be made to the PICU Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation in memory of his grandson Max Deutscher. https://pattisonchildrens.ca/how-to-help/donate/donate-now/
