Clement Hudor Roy
(May 10, 1926 – December 26, 2011)
Clement Hudor Roy passed away December 26, 2011 at the Herb Bassett Care Home in Prince Albert, at the age of 85 years.
Clement was born to Philippe Roy and Anaise Agarand in Domremy, SK, on May 10, 1926. His young life was quickly marked by a very traumatic event, as his mother passed away shortly after his birth. He spent a few years with his grandmother Agarand in Vonda, SK, before returning to his father and Roy grandparents to start his education at Argonne School.
Despite the difficulties posed by the absence of a mother, the young family perservered during the depression years. He left school after grade eight to help on the family farm, where he developed a keen interest in all facets of agricultural life: clearing bush, love of the land, and most particularly raising livestock. He also spent some time working in the family’s northern lumber operations.
Clement began farming on his own in the early fifties, on the original farm site in Hoey. It was at this time that he met and married the lovely young neighbour, Diane Gaudet. Raising seven children, the ensuing years were marked by hard work and growing prosperity. Clement remained on the farm until his retirement to Sunset View Lodge in St. Louis, in 2008.
Clement had a strong sense of social responsibility, as reflected in his involvement on several boards and committees: the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the Credit Unions, and the Church. He was also a long-standing member of the CCF NDP. Clement had many and varied interests. Some of his happiest moments involved singing, playing the guitar, cards, and visiting with friends over a cold beer. In the latter part of his life he took particular delight in visits from grand and great grandchildren. His colourful personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Clement was predeceased by his parents, Philippe and Anaise Roy, his son Martin Roy, his grandson Eric Roy, his sister-in-law Florence Roy, and his brother-in-law Pierre Cousin. He is survived by his loving wife Diane, his sons: Roland of Saskatoon, SK, Ben (Gisele) of Hoey, SK, and their children Gilles (Jeannine) and Colin; Armand (Carole) of Bellevue, SK and their children Nicole, Sylvie (Prescott Beresh), and Chantal (Ryan) Denis; his daughters: Paulette (Herb) Hodgson of Birch Hills, SK, and their children: Tom (Jessica), Holly (Larry) Bocian, and Wesley (Tamarah); Lorraine (Marc) Huard of Saskatoon, SK, and their children: Martin (Erika Hagen), Danielle, and Laurelle; Elaine (Tim) Krause of Saskatoon, SK, and their children: Andrew and Emily; his great grandchildren: Lukas and Gabrielle Roy and Mason Roy-Boettcher; his sister Lucille Cousin of St. Louis, SK, his brother Roger Roy of Bellevue, SK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in St. Louis, SK, on Friday, December 30 at 2 :00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Greg Elder as celebrant. Cremation will take place following the Mass with interment of the Urn at a later date. Donations in memory of Clement may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association of Saskatchewan.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service in Wakaw. 233-4403
