It is with sadness and with love that the family of Christopher Kyle Hambleton announces his passing on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the young age of 46.
Chris was the ultimate storyteller and had a deep passion for everything connected to nature – birds, weather, geology, gardening, camping. He grew up in Prince Albert where he raced on the provincial cross-country ski team throughout his youth and won the Saskaloppet in 1994. His record time stood for 16 years. Chris also enjoyed cycling, building and repairing bikes, and golfing with his buddies Jeff, Tom, and Kevin, whom he also considered close friends.
Chris obtained a History and Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Saskatchewan and went on to complete a Masters of Law from the University of Ottawa. Chris was passionate about his work as senior legal counsel for the Government of Saskatchewan, especially the work he did as a lawyer for the Ministry of Environment. Thank you to his colleagues who supported him over the past few years.
Chris was a friend to many. He loved to help people, to listen to their stories, and to share advice. Chris had an amazing capacity to care for people and reach out to those in need. He loved his family dearly, especially his two daughters Caroline and Beth with whom he shared his passion for gardening and cooking, for animals (including his beloved cat Maddy), for skiing and golfing.
He leaves behind so many who loved him deeply – his spouse Elsa Johnston, his mother Wanda Witcombe (nee Read) and his stepfather David Witcombe, his sister Jana Hambleton and her husband Rob Klenz and their children Ivan and Natalie Klenz, his stepmother Alice Hambleton, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Chris is predeceased by his father Donald Hambleton.
The family will be holding a memorial for Chris on February 11, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Artesian in Regina (2627 13th Avenue). Family and friends are invited to come and bring their stories of Chris to share.
Chris’s family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Pasqua Hospital in Regina for their support, compassion, and guidance in Chris’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to his daughters Caroline and Beth for their education.
