Christina Penner
(May 17, 1918 – October 10, 2011)
Christine was born on May 17, 1918 to her parents Abram and Justina Dyck at Aberdeen, SK and moved with her family to Warman, SK as a young child and grew up there. After her initial schooling, she attended Dalmeny Bible School for one year taking classes in English and German.
Christine married David Penner on Dec. 24, 1939. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2004. Christine and David moved from Warman to Beatty in the fall of 1941. Two children were born to this union; Virgil in 1940 and Carol in 1945.
There was a quiet but deep spiritual side to her. Her close walk with God was evident in the way she conducted herself, her Bible studies and prayer life were very important to her.
Christine was an avid gardener; loved her flowers and working in her yard. Following her children's activities was of great interest to her. She enjoyed their school field days, 4H activities and Christmas concerts. She encouraged and supported her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.
Christine was often involved in church and community activities. She was not the planner or organizer, but enjoyed contributing to the overall group effort with her cooking, baking and catering with the Beatty Ladies at many functions.
In their later years; Christine and David enjoyed travelling on various tours. Some of the places they visited were Hawaii, Chicago, Nashville and Texas. The highlight of their vintage car tours was to Detroit, Michigan in the early 1980's.
Surviving are her daughter Carol Engstrom; and her son Virgil (Janice); one granddaughter Michelle (Ryan) Hutchison; and one great granddaughter, Mcauy; one sister; Ethel Wesling; one brother-in-law Edward Penner; two sisters-in-law Olga (Henry) Peters and Hettie Penner.
Christine was predeceased by her parents; her husband David; her grandson Lindsay David; two sisters Mary Dyck and Katherine Penner; two brothers Abe and Henry; 3 infant siblings and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Christine passed away on October 10, 2011 at the age of 93 years.
