It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Charles was born in Prince Albert on April 28, 1921. He lived all his life on the family farm. He was blessed to have 1 sister Anne, and 12 half brothers and sisters. Charles met the love of his life Adelene Calyniuk when he saw her through the windows of Glass Dairies. It was love at first sight! They married on July 12, 1944 in Alvena, SK. They settled on the family farm in Honeymoon, and were blessed with 11 children.
The farm evolved into an award winning dairy operation which continued until 1989. The farm was sold and Charles and Adelene retired to Prince Albert. Upon Adelene’s passing in 2008, Charles moved into the Kopera Care Home where he was lovingly cared for. Sadly his health deteriorated and was sent to the Victoria Hospital where he passed away surrounded by his loving family. Charles is survived by his sons: Kasper (Phyllis), Alex (Ann), Joseph (Linda), Eddie (Tracy), Patrick (Donna) and Stephen; his daughters: Patricia (Gavin) Martens, Margie (Leonard) Yungwirth and his daughter-in-law Grace; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Adelene; his children: Ralph, Christopher and Theresa; his grandson Garrick; his parents: Joseph and Barbara Hordyski and all of his brothers and sisters. Charles lifelong passions included his involvement in the K of C and Columbian Centre, coaching soccer, and volunteering for many charitable organizations. He loved visits from his friends and family while enticing them to play a game of Kaiser, crib or golf. He enjoyed attending coffee row and leading exercises at the Kopera Care Home. A special thanks goes to his prayer partner Yvette, his physician Dr. Egbeyemi, Kopera Care Home and the Victoria Hospital 6th Floor staff. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation or St. Joseph’s Parish. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015 with Howard Weitzel officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 with Celebrant Reverend Father Roque Concepcion. Both services will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
