Charles “Chuck” James LaBrash, late of RM of Shellbrook, SK, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Parkside Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Charles LaBrash, best known as Chuck, was born on December 3, 1952, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan to Bernard and Catherine LaBrash. During his first 14 years, Chuck lived in various communities throughout central and northern Saskatchewan where his dad taught school. Around 1963, the family moved to Parkside which sealed his destiny for future love.
Chuck and Bernice whom he often called his little buddy, were married in October of 1972 in Parkside. There, Chuck kept bees (which he loved to do), built a brand-new home where their first 2 children Marni and Tara were born. He worked at different jobs, including carpentry, and his bees. As time went by, he realized he needed to try something different. This is when he started his career in instrumentation, which he did until his retirement. He started his first job in instrumentation in 1982 by moving the whole family to Kelowna, B.C. and that’s where Amy and Jeff were born. The family was now complete. In 1988, they moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta and stayed for 8 years. Despite a very successful career and warm community, Chuck and Bernice’s heart never left Parkside and in 1995 they went back to where they began their life together.
Chuck’s energy filled the room with his vibrant personality. He loved to share stories, bestow wisdom, heard what everyone was up to, and never afraid to dive in to help or build his own project. Chuck took a lot of pride in his accomplishments. He loved his green house, his garden, orchard, and berry patches, and of course, his bees. His horseradish and honey are well known and appreciated by many.
Chuck’s creativity and innovation to save as much money and reduce waste, could by definition be an organized and efficient hoarder.
Above all else, Chuck loved his family. He and Bernice had spent over 50 years together including the early years of young love. He loved his children and was willing to do whatever he could to help them. Chuck enjoyed hosting many family gatherings at their home and always offered a prayer of gratitude before the meal for all the blessings and people in his life.
And in ending Chuck’s greatest concern was having to leave the acreage. After a brief illness in the hospital, Chuck returned home, enjoyed doing the things he loved to do. He had supper from the garden and was happy to go to get Bernice from the hospital and bring her home.
We strongly believe that God gave him the gift of peace and happiness before God took him home from his home.
