The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is currently recruiting a term full-time Charge Nurse to work at SHNB Corrections. We are seeking a compassionate, respectful and empathetic individual, eager to contribute in a positive way to the challenges of working in a female Correctional Centre. You will work with a team of health care professionals to provide oversight of direct female patient nursing care and treatment. To be considered for this position you will be actively registered (eligible for registration) with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPN), or The College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (RN).
You will have knowledge of:
- medical and psychiatric theories and related intervention strategies;
- drug/alcohol withdrawal indicators and effects;
- communicable disease priorities within a correctional population;
- public health issues and risk factors; and
- multi-cultural beliefs, values and perspectives with particular emphasis on First Nations and Métis.
You will have the demonstrated the ability to:
- train, supervise, provide direction, and coach employees in order to maintain high standards of work and foster teamwork;
- create an environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes diversity of employees and clients;
- develop and maintain respectful, honest, professional relationships with a diverse range of individuals and co-professionals, both within and outside the Ministry;
- resolve conflict effectively within the workplace and between agencies;
- record, organize and present, verbally and in writing, information in a complete, accurate and timely manner at a level that is appropriate to the audience;
- plan, prioritize, organize and assign a demanding workload; and
- recognize and evaluate safety and/or potential risks to self and others and use good judgement and take steps to minimize and/or resolve them.
To be considered for this position, you will be actively registered (or eligible for registration) with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) or the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS). You must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider certification, recognized by your respective licensing body. Supervision experience in performance and resource management, combined with correctional experience, would be considered an asset.
The hours of work are currently Monday – Friday day shift; however, as we operationalize this role the hours of work may change to shift work, including day/evening/night shifts.
