With great sadness, we announced the passing of Cathy Anne McNabb (nee Levitsky), who passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with her family by her side.
Cathy leaves behind her devoted husband, Delbert; her son, Eugene (Stefanie); grandson, Colton; step granddaughter, Aspen; brother, Mickey (Heidi) Levitsky; nieces, Genna & Jordan; nephew, Tristan (Kim); great niece, Everly; and brother in law, Wes Mathiason, all from the Levitsky family, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws from the McNabb family.
She was predeceased by her mother, Lecia (Liz); father, Eugene; and sister, Carol.
Cathy was born on May 20, 1957, in Edmonton, Alberta. She grew up in Hinton until 1967, when her family moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, after her father accepted a new position at the pulp mill.
Cathy was a strong, determined, and independent woman who could accomplish anything she set her mind to. From moving out on her own at a young age – living by the moto, ‘my house my rules’, to graduating with honours, Cathy never shied away from a challenge. A statement put in her school yearbook, she was “smart enough for two people to graduate”.
Cathy had an incredible ability to help those around her, and was always there for her family and friends. But above all else, her greatest love was her family. Her son, Eugene, and later grandson, Colton, were the centre of her world. It was because of her love for her boys that Cathy and Delbert eventually made the decision to move to Whitecourt, Alberta allowing her to be closer to them, and to share in their lives.
Cathy loved bringing people together, especially around a table filled with food. She enjoyed baking, making pyrohy (perogies), and cooking large meals. She took great pleasure in making sure everyone she loved had a place at her table.
She was also a fierce loyal, Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and proudly cheered on her team. But perhaps nothing compared to her love for Elvis Presley. To say Cathy was an Elvis fan would be an understatement. Her love for Elvis was a true passion, and a part of who she was.
Cathy was perhaps best known for her determination, earning her name “Cuda”, short for barracuda. When Cathy set her mind to something, there was no stopping her and you were often wise to get out of her way!
Her greatest, and most courageous battle was against cancer, a battle she fought bravely for 30 years. Through it all, Cathy showed courage. She never gave up.
Cathy will be remembered for her strength, her fierce love for her family, her generosity, her humor, and her unwavering determination. She touched the lives of so many people, and the memory she created with those she loved will be treasured forever.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that Cathy’s beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of all those she touched.
Rest in peace, Cathy.
You will be forever loved and deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made in Cathy’s name to Friends of Whitecourt Society or the Alberta Cancer Foundation. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
