Mary Ann Catherine “Kay” Gauthier of Mildred, SK, passed away at 5:40 a.m., on June 21, 2023, in the Abbotsford Hospital. Catherine, also known as Kay, was born on August 23, 1926, to Ralph and Molly Lalonde, in Shellbrook, SK. She was the second child of nine children: Raoul, James, Marie, Alphonse, Lois, Irene, Neil, and Robert.
She is dearly remembered by her four children, Marilyn Bannerman, Jeffrey Mallo, Douglas Mallo (Liza), and Michael Mallo (Birgy); her grandchildren, Carrie Bannerman, Taylor, Anya, and Nadia Mallo; her great-grandchildren, Jessi and Dylan Bannerman-Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
After Catherine completed High School, she continued her education in the Nursing Program. Kay graduated after 3 years in 1948. She then went to work at the North Battleford Hospital. Catherine was very dedicated to her Nursing career of 36 years. She also worked for Dr. Hjertaas, and the Maternity Ward at the Holy Family Hospital. Kay then branched off and worked as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with Mental Health Services, all in Prince Albert, SK.
Her passion was playing bridge, where she accomplished her Life Gold Masters with the American Duplicate Bridge Registry. She also enjoyed sewing, Ball Room dancing, singing in the church choir, and was a member of the Whispering Pines Chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s in Prince Albert.
Catherine had many other career accomplishments, namely developing and implementing the S.H.A.R.E. non-profit organization in Prince Albert. Catherine’s goal was to create the opportunity for approved patients to become socialized, learn about recreation, community and future employment. This organization has built a strong reputation and is currently operating. The self-help and rehabilitation Education program are involved and supports people in need of services requiring yard work, shoveling, snow removal, etc.
Catherine was very proud of making her own clothes. Many sewing machines later, it is known that 80% of her wardrobe was personally made from patterns and selected fabrics.
Catherine’s Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at St. Mark Parish, 581 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, with Father Manh Nguyen officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to the S.H.A.R.E. Organization of Prince Albert, SK.
