Catherine Atkinson

It is with profound sadness we share the passing of Cathy Atkinson, 94 years young, a beautiful caring person with a heart of gold. Cathy has been a resident at Birchview Nursing Home in Birch Hills for the past 10 months. We as a family feel very blessed she received such loving care at this facility. Mom was born and raised in Stanleyville, the second child of Austin and Katherine Emery. She spent the war years working in a factory in Oshawa and would have happily stayed in Ontario if she hadn’t returned to Prince Albert where she met and married Clifford. They spent over 60 years, as best friends, happily doing everything together. Life was good with family and friends in Prince Albert and the cottage at Christopher Lake, where the door was always open for a visit or a mad game of cards. Cathy is survived by her daughter: Linda, Winnipeg, MB; two daughters-in-law: Karen Atkinson, Kingston, ON and Pat Atkinson, Whitby, ON; sisters-in-law: Marion Emery, Prince Albert, SK, May Hall, Nanaimo, BC and Helen Atkinson, Regina, SK. As well, she is survived by 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren: Dan (Pamela Henderson) Atkinson, Ashton and Eryn, Kingston, ON, Tim (Cheri) Atkinson, Racheal and Riley, Prince Albert, SK, Todd (Gina) Sevick, Lukas, Rhys and Spencer, Winnipeg, MB, Kim (Tim) Kraemer, Allie and Carrie, Winnipeg, MB. Cathy was predeceased in life by her husband: Clifford; her son: Ross; son-in-law: Len Sevick; as well as her parents, brother: Bill Emery; and her sister: Dolly DeVries; brother-in-law: Sid DeVries and his wife Elsie; as well as Clifford’s brothers and sisters. We would like to acknowledge special nieces Marilyn Langford and Donna Stratychuk who have spent many hours visiting Mom and being there for her. As well her nephew and niece Randy and Heather Emery and cousin June Short for everything they have done over many years. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11 Street East, Prince Albert, SK. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation to Wesley United Church, Prince Albert, SK would be appreciated. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
