August 21, 1920 – January 14, 2012
The family of Caroline Evans announces her peaceful departure from her earthly home on the evening of January 14, 2012 while residing at Good Shepherd Villas. Betty was predeceased by her husband Norman Evans; her parents Albert and Rose Collins and her son-in-law Maurice Fehr. She is survived by her three daughters, Florence (Walter) Graham, Evelyn Fehr and Patricia (Doug) Hogan; her six adorable grandchildren Bradley (Lesley) Fehr, Caroline (Scot) Newberry, Dana-Sue (Andrew) Northrup, Tyrone Graham, Kelly (Gina) Hogan and Brandace (Jaime) Baker; her brother Albert Collins and three sisters, Rose Steeden, Florence Brown and Ruby Craig (Elwin) and families. Mom is well-known in the Prince Albert area as a reliable, enthusiastic and long-term volunteer who chose that option to ease her grief following her husband’s death. She spent endless hours fundraising on behalf of the Prince Albert Co-operative Health Centre Volunteers, greeted visitors and took baby photos at Victoria Hospital and assisted at the Herb Bassett gift shop. Mom delivered Meals-on-Wheels, fundraised on behalf of Mont St. Joseph Care Home, taught life-skills for over 40 years to Girl Guides, assumed volunteer tasks for local Red Cross Society and was committed to social needs of seniors through Parkland Seniors’ Club and Abbeyfield Prince Albert. CKBI Community Spirit awards, Mrs. Winter Festival 2000, McClure Golden Heart Award 2004 and SK Centennial Medal 2005 recognized Mom’s commitment to her community. Cooking was mom’s passion. Twenty-five years of her life was spent as manageress of the Co-op Cafeteria. Staff appreciated her leadership skills and her strong work ethic. Patrons regularly stopped by to enjoy delicious coffee breaks, meals, and conversation. Mom shared her hand skills and personal interests in gardening, knitting, cribbage and curling. Her proudest moments involved the accomplishments of family members and close friends. Her latter years were spent eagerly sharing photos of her ten great-grandchildren, Meghan, Abbey, Lily, Niamh, Zoe, Ryder, Meike, Ethan, Grace and Caleb and spending time with them during summer visits. Her family marvels at the large number of people who were touched by mom’s presence. In lieu of other tributes, the family appreciates memorial donations to Prince Albert Co-operative Health Centre/Community Clinic or to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Val Bodnaryk. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
