JOHNSON – Carol
1934 – 2025
Carol was born on Christmas Day in Moose Jaw where her family farmed until she was six, then moved north to farm at Dorintosh. Carol was an outdoor girl who preferred helping with chores and driving the grain truck. She developed a love for horseback riding at an early age and any spare time was spent on her horse–racing seemed to be popular. She also gathered many pen pals who became lifelong friends that she eventually met in person. As she got older, Carol did some domestic work and worked at a bowling alley, becoming the fastest pin setter around. Even being tall, she was able to quickly set up the pins and leap up on the ledge out of the way.
Carol met and married Ted Johnson in 1955 and began a new life at Dore Lake, mink ranching. Still being an outdoor girl, she didn’t know how to cook but had to learn fast, feeding Ted and a hired hand, as well as tending to the mink. They raised two daughters, Ida May and Shirley and were very community minded—Carol with her calm demeanor, was always willing to help out. Ted and Carol began Dore Lake Community Church, building a little log church where Carol prepared tea and coffee after the services. She also provided food, lodging and a listening ear to the ministers who travelled in, sometimes bringing their families. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit, coming out with the perfect anecdote for each situation. A wise lady she was and there was no one more giving. In her later years (living at Debden Heritage Manor), more than her personality sparkled when she dressed up each day with matching hair accessories, beads and rhinestone bangles. Those days of work overalls were behind her, for now she had “bling”…and maybe a good glass of wine! Cheers to Carol and special memories. She surely will be missed.
Carol is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Ida May Ricalton (Len Neufeld); Shirley Feszyk (Ken Steinhauer); her grandchildren & great grandchildren, Raeann (Colin Litwin) O’Brien and their shared children, Drayden, Halle, Kale, Sophie and Charles; Joey Ricalton; Shawn (Petra) Feszyk; Lane Feszyk (Carol Stanbury); her special nieces, nephews, Susan (Richard) Wuorinen; Darlene (Gary) Jordan; Warren (Gloria) Boudreau; Audra (Norm) Infanti; Gina Toutsaint; Clifford Conlan; her sister Gayle Conlan as well as numerous other relatives and many friends.
