Buddy Eugene Wasylyshyn
January 7, 1940 – May 27, 2026
Age 86
It is with sadness that the family of Buddy Eugene Wasylyshyn, beloved husband of Pat, announces his passing on May 27th, 2026, at Rose Garden Hospice at the age of 86.
Buddy was born on January 7th 1940, in the upstairs bedroom of the family homestead on Tower Road, south of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He spent his life deeply connected to the land, his family and the farming community that he loved. Attending Royal School and later Agricultural School, he went on to spend most of his life farming on the very same homestead where he was born and raised.
On June 24th, 1961, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Ternowsky. Together they built a life on the farm through hard work, perseverance, laughter, and raising their two daughters, Sharon and Charlise.
Born on the farm and spending most of his life working on the same land, farming was more than an occupation—it was his way of life. Harvest was his favorite time of year, and there was nowhere he would rather be than on the field during harvest. He especially enjoyed meals in the field and treasured taking his grandsons for rides in the combine, sharing with them the farm and way of life he loved so much.
In addition to farming, he worked at the Prince Albert Stock Yards, Sask Wheat Pool, Woolco, and Petro-Canada. No matter where he worked, he was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand.
He loved cards, especially Kaiser, and anyone who played with him knew how much he loved to win. He also enjoyed cribbage and took great pride in teaching his grandsons to play both Kaiser and cribbage. When harvest was over and winter arrived, he could often be found out ice fishing.
He belonged to a bowling league for many years and proudly displayed his bowling trophies for all to see. There seemed to be nothing he couldn’t build, fix, or craft. His 121-petal sunflower in which he designed his own patterns, turkeys made from old tractor seats, and ladybugs crafted from old discs were among the many decorations he created over the years that could be found all around the farmyard.
His grandsons and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. He cherished visiting with family, neighbours, and friends, never missing an opportunity to share stories, laughter, or lend a helping hand.
Buddy and Pat created many wonderful memories together through their travels, including trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Daytona Beach, Las Vegas, and cruises to Alaska and Bermuda. Some of his most cherished memories were cheering on his beloved Toronto Blue Jays and taking their four oldest grandsons to Disneyland. One trip that held a special place in his heart was travelling to Ukraine in 1998 to see where his father came from and meet family and relatives he had never known.
After 75 years on the family homestead, his health made it necessary to step away from farming and the land he had built and loved. He moved to Delorme Bay and later to Kerr Cove, where he lived until his passing.
Buddy will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to farming, his willingness to help others, and his ability to build, fix, or make almost anything. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he touched.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Wasylyshyn; daughter, Sharon, grandson, Kyle Wagner, and his children, Blake and Aria; grandson Justin Wagner, and his daughter, Claire; grandson, Riley Wasylyshyn-Romanchuk; daughter Charlise (Grant) Chubey, grandson, Devon (Ali) and their family, Olivia and Thomas; grandson, Jordan (Stephanie) and his children, Cylas and Quinn; and grandson Tanner.
He is further survived by his sister, Eleanor (Raymond) Cote, and sisters-in-law, Rose Strohan, and Helen Ternowsky.
