Charles Bruce Wreford
1931 – 2023
Peacefully, with family by his side, Bruce passed away at Parkland Integrated Health Center in Shellbrook on July 21st.
Born in Prince Albert on June 27th, 1931, Bruce was the eldest child of CHF “Bob” Wreford and Joyce (nee Farmer) Wreford. His two siblings, Dennis and Amy came along later.
Bruce first attended school in Boro Green and later completed a course in Gasoline and Diesel Motors at the University of Saskatchewan. During winters and some summers, he worked away from the farm with the wages he earned going into improvements to the Wreford farm holdings.
In 1956, Bruce met the love of his life, Doris Ellen Forbes, a young nurse from Big River. They were married in 1961 and moved to the family farm where they built a new home near to Bruce’s parents in 1964. Here, they raised their family of three sons while Doris continued her nursing career and Bruce ran the farm. Bruce enjoyed living on the farm right up until his admittance to hospital this June.
Bruce spent his 92 years building a life to be proud of – one spent caring for his family and contributing to his community. He embodied and lived the values of integrity, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and so very many were the richer for it. Over the years, he contributed to many organizations in the area including the Wheat Pool Committee, Canwood Co-op, Canwood Curling Club, 4-H Club and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Bruce is lovingly remembered by his sister Amy, sons Dannie, Terry (Dawn), their children Carter and Gillian, John (Sherri) and their children Denon, Dallas and Amy, brothers-in-law Bud Forbes (Grace), Ken Forbes (Cindy McLean), sisters-in-law Gladys Rudolph and Lorrie Forbes and numerous other family members. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Doris, his brother Dennis, and numerous other family members.
There will be a time of fellowship and reminiscing at the Canwood Legion Hall on Wednesday, July 26th at 2:00 PM. Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to the Canwood Legion Branch #132.
