Bruce Albert Hope passed away peacefully on November 10, 2019 at the age of 64 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Cindy, brother, Barry (Carla); sister, Gaylene Wade (James); brothers-in-law, Terry Pierson (Melanie), Wayne Ballendine, and Rod Ballendine; sister-in-law, Marilyn Robertson (Bill), and Auntie Queenie Powers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Grant and Edna Hope, grandparents, Bruce and Eleanor Hope, Albert and Alice Aasen; brother, Ken Hope; sister, Shelly Pierson; infant nephew, Daniel Hope; and nephew, Terry Hope.
Bruce was born on October 9, 1955, the second son of Grant and Edna Hope. He grew up on the family farm near Weldon, Saskatchewan. He enjoyed a happy childhood with a busy family life centered around the farm. He liked fishing, going to the sandbar and riding bikes with his friends.
Bruce went to school in Weldon until Grade 9 and then to high school in Birch Hills, graduating in 1973. From there, he attended Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw graduating with his electrical certificate.
After completing his electrical schooling, Bruce joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and was a member in good standing for over 44 years. He valued his time as a journeyman electrician with his union brothers in Local #529 (Saskatoon) and Local #804 (Kitchener).
In 1987, he married Cindy Ballendine, the girl across the road. They lived in Saskatoon until December 1988 when the economic policies of the day drove them to Kitchener, Ontario. He worked for an electrical contractor then switched to the maintenance department at a factory where he made many friends. When the factory closed, he went to work at the Bruce Power in Kincardine. The last two projects he worked on were in Saskatchewan (Rocanville and Bethune).
After 29 years in Ontario, Bruce and Cindy decided to move home and made their way back to the prairie where they settled in Martensville. After he retired, Bruce was able to go on a few fishing trips with his new boat. Fishing was always a joy for him and it was a great way to spend time with family and friends. He also continued to act as recording secretary for his local IBEW.
Bruce fought hard but the gift of long life was not meant to be. He leaves behind many who love him and who will miss him.
When you think of Bruce, think of him with smiles and laughter.
A Celebration of Life for Bruce will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Weldon Auditorium, Weldon, SK.
