Turgeon, Bert
1930 – 2014
Bert was born on a farm in the Laventure district, the youngest boy in a family of 14 children. He attended the North Creek School up to grade 7 and then remained on the farm and worked there with his brothers. He married the love of his life, Beatrice Boucher, in 1952 and bought a half section of land to farm. Bert and Bea lived in a small house in his brother Florian’s yard. During the next 3 years, a son Alain, and a daughter Claire, were born. In 1958, they purchased more land and moved to their own yard site located ½ mile south of Laventure. In 1959, their third child, Marc, was born. Bert continued to expand his farming operation throughout the years and, in 1978, the farm expanded further into a partnership with his son, Marc.
Bert was a very active member in the community with organization of the Spiritwood Co-op, building the first curling rink in Spiritwood, and being a school board member for a number of years.
In 1988, Bert and Bea moved to Spiritwood when Marc and Lori took over the farming operation. Although he moved off the farm, his heart never left it. He travelled daily to assist with work on the farm until 2009.
Throughout his life, Bert enjoyed music, dancing, and playing cards, especially with his grandchildren. His door was always open to anyone who wished to sing, play cards or just visit.
He will be sadly missed but never forgotten as he will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched.
Bert leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 61 years, Beatrice (nee: Boucher), his children: Alain (Elaine) Turgeon and their daughter: Alaina (Colin O’Keefe); Claire Turgeon (Lydia Gledhill); Marc (Lori) Turgeon and their children: Mitchel, Lauren and Cassandra; his sister, Marie Laure (Niels) Eliot; his step-sister, Therese Zilan (nee: Dube). Bert is predeceased by: his parents, Joseph and Emma Turgeon; his brothers, Jean Paul, Philias, Paul Emile, Henri, George, Josephat, Florian, Florido and Paulidore, his sisters, Marie Louise Turgeon, Marie Rose Turgeon and Mariette Marion.
Mass of Christian Burial was held for Bert on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan.
