Brenda Shmyr
1953 ~ 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brenda Ann Shmyr announce her passing on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Brenda was born on August 22, 1953, in Prince Albert, SK, to Dolly and Ed Forsyth. She grew up in Clouston, SK, where her father managed a grain elevator and was a devoted sports coach in the community. This established a love for sports that she carried throughout her life.
She graduated from Prince Albert Composite High School in 1971. Brenda began her career as a Legal Stenographer in 1971, and subsequently held several positions at the Provincial Court of SK. She retired in 2018 after over 20 years as a Clerk of the Court, with countless friendships made.
Brenda’s love for sports was shown with a great joy of watching her sons play hockey, with her eldest playing in the WHL. She was a devoted, caring, loving mother who always put her children first.
Brenda married Marvin Shmyr on September 1, 2005. They lived on a farm east of Prince Albert, SK. They loved fishing down by the river and taking care of their pets, including two German Shepherds, Bella and Rambo.
When Brenda started naming the calves in spring, it was time to move on. Together, they built their new home on the farm and moved it to Emma Lake, SK.
Brenda’s joy came from gardening and the upkeep of her beautiful yard and home, pontoon rides, and fishing and relaxing evenings with friends and neighbours. She had many hobbies, from cards, playing piano, to whooping her boys at table tennis into her late 60’s.
Her true happiness came from her grandchildren. Her time with Natalie, watching Ashton play sports, visits with Daylen and Damon making her laugh, seeing Megan from Belgium, to her trips to Kamloops, and time with Evan and Erik. At home, you could find Brenda on Facebook watching videos of Kaleb and Mia.
Brenda’s love for her friends and family will be greatly missed.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Marvin Shmyr; sons, Darcy Chartrand, Daryl Chartrand, Davey Chartrand; stepson, Michael Olofson; stepdaughter, Rhonda Olofson; daughters-in-law, Debbie Olofson, Stephanie Espinal Gonzalez; son-in-law, Dave Boettcher; and grandchildren, Ashton, Megan, Evan, Natalie, Daylen, Damon, Kaleb, Mia.
Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Dolly Forsyth; brother, William Forsyth; son Daley Chartrand; grandson, Erik Olofson; mother-in-law, Annie Shmyr; great aunt and uncle, Jim and Winnie Wurtz; her son’s father, Tom Chartrand.
There will be a Celebration of Life on July 20, 2025, at Brenda and Marvin’s home in Emma Lake, SK.
