Borden Robert Hicks was born on December 15, 1946 to Gertrude and Elmer Hicks.  On March 19, 2019 he lost his fight to live, with family at his side, at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK.  Borden fought to live so many times throughout his life, with so many close calls.  Having asthma right from birth, his Mom and Dad often talked about how they would listen through the night to make sure he was still breathing.  The doctor would often stop by at dinner to check on him and many times his Mom would had him on the front lawn in his cradle because the sun would help his eczema.  Many times in the winter he would pass out against the snowbank on his way home from school.  In his 20’s he contracted meningitis and the doctors again did not expect him to live, but he did.  He was also involved in an accident with a semi, being hit head on.  This accident left him with a brain injury that caused him to have epileptic attacks.  Eight years ago, Borden was diagnosed with throat cancer and during the surgery to remove the growth his heart stopped.  He fought back and survived, rallied, and was able to talk and recovered well.  Unfortunately, the cancer came back.  Fighting again, he took chemo and radiation but the damage to his throat was so severe, it left him unable to talk.  Not willing to accept this, he pushed the doctors for a referral to a throat specialist to reconstruct his throat with muscles from his chest, and also had his lymph nodes removed.  He was in the hospital in Edmonton for three months.  After coming home, he had several small procedures about every six months to keep his throat passages open so that he could eat and breathe.  Two years ago he fell and broke his femur in three places below his hip.  Again, he did not give up and recovered amazingly.  These last few winters he had many hospital stays resulting from his lung complications, with this past winter being the worst.  Unfortunately, his lungs could not fight anymore.  Throughout Borden’s life, one of his favorite things included playing pool, and this resulted in him becoming the Western Canadian Pool Champion.  He enjoyed travelling with Conklin Garret and Big “A” Amusements, where he was able to make many long lasting friendships.  He had a great love for sports and music and sharing time and stories with friends at his favorite watering hole.  He was employed by Conklin Garret and Big “A” Amusements,  P & B Metal Brokers as a Co-Owner, TD Courier, as a manager at Smitty’s and as the Owner/Operator of B.R.H Painting, Drywall & Design.   Borden is survived by: his loving wife, Judy (nee Wilson); his son: Jason (Jen) Hicks, his daughter: Tracey (Kenton) LeComte; his son: Kevin (Heather) Halcro; his grandsons: Kyle (Jasmin) Folmer and Dallas Danczak; his sister: Bonnie Ambrose; his niece: Heidi (Mark) Follows; his nephew: Gregg Ambrose; and his sister-in-law: Bev Hicks.  Borden was predeceased by: his parents: Gertrude and Elmer Hicks; his brother: Brent Hicks; his niece: Darcey Hicks; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Rowna and Harry Wilson, as well as many other loved ones and friends.  The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the Staff of the Victoria Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Borden.  A Come and Go Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Masonic Temple (next to the Kinsmen workshop), 292 15^th Avenue East, Prince Albert.
