Diedich Robert (Bob) Unrau of Shell Lake, SK was born in 1955 in Deloraine, MB to his parents Abram and Marie Unrau. He was the eighth of ten children and loved growing up in his large family and on the farm. When he left home to go to Calgary, AB to start his future, he met his wife Holly and they were married in 1977. They celebrated 46 years of marriage and lived in a number of places. While in Calgary, they were blessed with their first son, Darcy. Following Calgary they lived in Hay River, NWT working with Fisheries and Oceans and volunteering with the Ambulance and Fire Service. It was there they had their daughter, Heather. They were then transferred to Meadow Lake, SK where they found their community of faith and their last son, Paul, was born. They enjoyed many years in Saskatchewan until transferring to CFIA Edmonton where they resided in Sherwood Park, AB. It was there their first grandchild was born. One last transfer took them to Red Deer, AB and the birth of their other five grandchildren. He retired from the CFIA in 2012 and during retirement, they spent winter months in Yuma, AZ. In Yuma, with their little church congregation they did mission work building homes in Mexico with Homes of Hope. Wanting to reunite with their friends and community in Saskatchewan they moved to Shell Lake, where they have been blessed with the loving support of friends and their church family.
With his love of family and community, his interests of gardening, camping, fishing, farming, and sports; his first love was always his Saviour Jesus, and all the ways he could share his faith with his family, friends and those around him.
His journey with cancer started in 2002 and he battled it for many years. In 2006 God answered our prayers of healing and gave him a miracle of 10 years being cancer free. His battle with cancer began again and from the beginning to his final day, his faith stayed strong and grew, trusting in his Lord and Saviour. He was lovingly cared for by his wife and the angels from the Home Care Staff, and his doctor. At the age of 68 years old, at home, he went to be with Jesus on August 16, 2023 with family and friends around him in Shell Lake, SK.
