Blanche Aurelie Delhommeau
(February 11, 1914 – July 6, 2011)
Blanche Aurélie (Régnier) Delhommeau died in Prince Albert, SK on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the age of 97.
Blanche was born on February 11, 1914 in the St Hippolyte district in West Central Saskatchewan. The youngest of 10 children of Moise and Celanese (née Lagesse) Régnier, Blanche attended school at St Hippolyte and Edam. Following her schooling she remained at home and helped her parents on their farm. Blanche then lived and worked in Quebec for a time before returning to Saskatchewan where she married Henri Joseph Delhommeau in 1944.
Blanche and Henri farmed together and raised their family in the White Star district, a short distance north of Prince Albert. Like most women of her generation on small family farms, Blanche worked long, hard hours every day tending to crops, cattle, poultry and a large garden, all the while being an active member of her parish and her community. Following their retirement from active farming, Blanche and Henri resided on their farm until Henri’s passing in 1992, after which Blanche moved to Prince Albert where she lived until her death.
Blanche was predeceased by her husband Henri in 1992; her parents; her five sisters and four brothers. Blanche is survived by her six children: Roland, Victor (Marianne), Charles (Darlene), Madeleine (Gerald Zbaraschuk), Donald and Marie (James Wishart); 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are Blanche’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Marie Bundon; a great many nieces and nephews; her friends and neighbours at White Star and Prince Albert.
Blanche’s family extend their appreciation to Dr Rob Ardell and the staff at Victoria Hospital for providing Blanche with kind and professional care.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 – 4 Avenue West by Father Maurice Fiolleau. Interment will take place in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
