BABCOCK, Betty Marlene
1937 – 2025
Betty was born in Nipawin on June 24, 1937, to Otwin and Gertrude Baerwald. Betty returned home to the Heavenly Father on March 31, 2025.
Betty was the second child of three and the only daughter to Ott and Gertie. She grew up in Choiceland, SK where she completed grade school. She went on to complete her degree in education at the Teachers College in Saskatoon in 1955.
Betty was an avid athlete and excelled in all sports including fastball and curling. Betty later took up golfing and bowling where her athletic prowess once again shone through.
It was when Betty obtained her first teaching job in Waldron, SK that she met the love of her life and beloved husband, Clayton Babcock and they were married two years later. Throughout their lives together, Betty and Clayton had many adventures in their motorhome and shared a love of baseball and travelled to many destinations to cheer on the Blue Jays. Betty and Clayton resided in various locations until they settled in Red Deer, AB where they eventually retired.
Her beloved Clayton passed away in 2005 and Betty returned to Saskatchewan in 2011 to be closer to her immediate and extended family in Prince Albert, SK.
Betty was predeceased by her mother, Gertrude; and father, Otwin; her brother, Eugene; and her sister-in-law, Shirley. Betty is survived by her brother, William Baerwald and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty’s devotion to the Lord and the Lutheran church was evident in her involvement in all aspects of the church. She made beautiful banners that hung in the church for various celebrations. Betty lived a life devoted to the Lord and was kind and loving to all those that knew her. Her generosity and beautiful spirit touched so many lives both near and far. Betty was an avid seamstress and used these skills to sew over 1,000 dresses made from recycled pillowcases that were adorned with lace and ribbon for many young women in Third World Countries.
Those of us remaining will cherish her beautiful spirit and love of life.
