Bertha McKenzie

Bertha McKenzie, late of Lloydminster, AB. passed away on November 30, 2012 at the age of 84 years. Bertha was born in the Sugar Hill district to Anton and Mary Muzik. She was the youngest of four girls. Bertha took her schooling in the Sugar Hill district. In 1950 she married Peter Mardell and had one son Marvin. They farmed in the Steep Creek district until Peters passing. She worked at different cleaning jobs, as well as farming, then at the princess cafe as a dishwasher for 25 years until her retirement. She met and married Jim McKenzie in 1973, and had 25 years together before his passing. They enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening and picking berries together. Bertha was a good cook and cooked many meals for family and friends. After Jim passed away Bertha spent many hours with her best friend Helen Keeborn. They put on many miles walking to the mall and up to Herb Bassett Home and meeting another friend Josie Attig for coffee. Bertha moved to Lloydminster in 2008 to be near her son and family. She was a resident in Points West, a senior’s home until her passing. She was predeceased by her parents: Mary & Anton Muzik; her first husband: Peter Mardell; her second husband: Jim McKenzie; her two sisters: Hermina Gustafson and Frances Sharuga; her brothers-in-law: Wally Gustafson, Stanley Sharuga and Sam Sharuga. She leaves to mourn her passing her son: Marvin and Dianne Mardell; her grandsons: Chris (Tracy) Mardell and Terry (Angie) Mardell, her two great-grandsons: Brett and Cody Mardell; and great-granddaughter: Shelby Mardell all of Lloydminster; her one sister Julia Shuraga, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to Salvation Army. A private family service will be held.
