Bertha was born November 4, 1917 in Claytonville, SK and shared the same day of birth with her mother. She met her future husband John on the farm in Claytonville, and they married on October 28, 1935. They then moved into a one room log house in Steep Creek, SK where they homesteaded and raised their four children. After 30 years of marriage she became a young widow at the age of 48 years old. She often said that it was the grandchildren that helped her get through the loss of her husband. She continued to farm for 16 years with her two sons. In 1982, she moved into Prince Albert and became very involved in golfing and bowling but still had the time to grow the most beautiful flowers and garden. She remained in her own home alone and still did the cooking and cleaning up until two months prior to her passing, where she then spent her final two months in the Victoria Hospital. We are all going to miss her and we are forever grateful for the memories that we have of our time spent with her.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Parish, 589 9th St East, Prince Albert, SK with Father Jim Kaptein officiating. Interment will be held after the service at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
