Our Mom, grandma, great grandmother and a good friend Bertha Amelia Mohr departed from this life peacefully with family by her side at Parkland Place on Saturday July 19, 2014 at the age of 97 years.
She was born on September 14, 1916 in Southey, SK to Fredrick and Magdelena Ritter. Bertha took schooling in Yakama, Washington to grade five, then moved back to Southey and finished her schooling at Hazelwood country school, near Southey, SK. She later married George Mohr of the north Southey district on January 16, 1934 at the Southey Lutheran Church.
Bertha and George first farmed in the north Southey district then Earl Grey and Semans area. In 1942 they moved to the Pleasantdale area and farmed until 1949. They then moved to Melfort. She farmed in the Silver Park area and worked at a nursing home in Melfort, which then was called The Geriatric Centre where she cooked then opened her own café. Bertha and George retired in 1976 and moved to Osoyoos, BC. She was blessed with 6 children, James, Irvin, Marlene, Amelia, Elva and John.
Some of her hobbies she loved was golfing (she golfed at Osoyoos, B.C. where she lived till the age of 89). She also bowled, played cards, sang in choir, loved gardening, flowers, visiting with friends and family, fishing, playing scrabble with Irma and loved baking pies. Anyone who came to visit would have to have a piece of pie. She was a kind hearted little lady, determined and stubborn! Even with pain of Rhumatoid arthritis she really never complained.
She was predeceased by husband George, sons Irvin and James, infant daughter Amelia, companion Norman Ford, brother Albert, sister Ida and granddaughter Penny.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Marlene Clark (grandson Douglas), daughter Elva (Martin) Kjelshus, (grandchildren Calvin, Tracy (Rodney), Chowen (Wyatt, Cole, Laci), Steven (Emily) Kjelshus, (Jack and Walter), son John (grandchildren Jerry (Amira), Garrnett, (Josa and Marissa), and Tasha (Peter), (Merik and Nicholas), Grandaughter Jeanie Mohr (Cassidy and Bradley), granddaughter Patty (Daren) Hawrish and grandchildren Kimberley, Jordan, Joshua, Keltee, Kator and Kyle and many dear friends.
She was so thankful to everyone who has helped her in any way. She most definitely is flying with the angels now. We love you.
A Memorial Service for Bertha was held from the Fedusiak Funeral Chapel, on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Shiach officiating. The interment will follow at a later date in Osoyoos, British Columbia. Honorary Pallbearers were considered to be “”All Who Knew & Loved Bertha” and the Urn Bearers were Wyatt & Cole Chowen. The eulogy was given by Tracy Chowen and the memorial register was attended to by Irma Anderson.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Arthritis Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan.
