Stieb – Mrs. Bernice
Bernice (nee: Stefanich) Stieb was born on March 7,1931 at Chirnside, on the family farm to Fred and Rose Stefanich. She took her schooling at Chirnside, SK. She attended school at Chirnside and when she finished her schooling she worked as a housekeeper for farm wives in the area. She married Bill Stieb on October 16, 1952. They lived and farmed east of Leask, SK. Bernice attended church at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Leask. Bernice was a member of the Catholic Women’s League. They had a son, Maurice and a daughter, Kim. They both attended school in Leask.
Bernice loved to garden and baked cinnamon buns, butter tarts, chocolate cakes and chocolate chip cookies for all the grandchildren. She loved to read, knit and do embroidery work. She loved her grandchildren and spent many memorable times with them. Bill and Bernice sold the farm and moved to Leask to retire. After Bill’s passing Bernice sold the house and moved to Marcelin where she resided until she moved to her final home in Hafford Special Care Home where she spent her final years. She was very happy there and felt loved and safe by all the wonderful staff which made her feel like family. When we brought her out to Leask for visits she always wanted to go back “home” and see “her girls” (Care Staff). When she was transferred to Rosthern Hospital the amazing staff and excellent Doctors made her last days very comfortable. Bernice lived a full life leaving a treasure house full of fond memories to share.
The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Leask at 11:00 am with Father Fredrick Akah officiating.
