BERNICE MATICE 1941 – 2010. Bernice Matice (nee Francis), loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert after a long and courageous battle of a multitude of serious illnesses. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 18 from Salvation Army Church – 163 – 12th Street East. Major Glenn Patey will officiate. Bernice was born on August 11, 1941. She married Ivan Matice and they raised 7 children and 20 grandchildren together: Margaret (Lloyd) Nielsen, Dana (Patrick) Coates and William, Yvonne (Rick) Henry and Emily, Eleanor (Dale Reid) Matice, Karl (Jenn), Greg (Candace) and Toni Linzmeyer, Stuart (Rosa), Christina (David), Rosita, Danielle, Shana and Ivan Matice, Marilyn (Robert Perkins) Matice, Dale (Tasha) Borden, Deanna Kezema, Carmen (Kevin) Watson, Richard (Monique) Matice, Trevor Pfeil, Allison (Shawn McNabb) Matice, Miguel, Ysabel and Andrea Gallegos and Lucas McNabb. Bernice will also be missed by her 20 great-grandchildren. As well, Bernice acquired many extra “children” over the years that called her “Mom” or “Grandma”. Bernice is survived by her siblings: Tom (Paulette) Francis, Kathy (Cornie) Sawatsky, Walter (Pauline) Francis, Charlie Erasmus, Ross (Lorraine) Francis, Bill (Sandie) Francis. She is also survived by Ivan’s siblings Ruby, Jean, Bernice, Irene (Ron), Arthur (Edith) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by her husband Ivan, daughter Yvonne, granddaughter Melissa, parents Bert & Bella, mother-in-law Eleanor, sister Marie and brothers Johnny, Sam and Jim. Bernice was well known for her cooking, baking, handicrafts and looking after anyone who needed a hand, meal or just a shoulder. Everyone that knew her will remember her as a loving, giving person who lived her life to the fullest by spending time with her family and friends. Bernice was an avid member of the Salvation Army Church with Ivan and all of their children. She also enjoyed spending time with the residents of the Columbian Centre and the members of the Heritage Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to extend the invitation to donate to the Prince Albert Dialysis Clinic at the Victoria Hospital. The family would like to thank the many staff members of the 5th Floor at the Victoria Hospital, The Dialysis Clinic and Dr. Robert Ardell for the loving care of our mother during these trying years. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca.
