It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Hauser. Ben passed away on June 7th, 2023. He was born on November 7th, 1932 in Komorow, Poland to Martha and Alexander Hauser. The family moved to Kremen, East Germany in 1944. Martha escaped with her 3 children over the wall to West Germany in 1946, after Alexander disappeared in the war. From there they were sponsored by relatives from Rabbit Lake, SK to come to Canada in 1948. They lived and worked for Ben’s uncle Bill Kuffert until 1953 when they decided to move to North Battleford, SK. Ben got a job with Standard Mineral Works (Coca Cola Plant) where he stayed for 10 years. He quit there to go on an adventure to New Zealand and work for a logging company. After this adventure was over he returned to North Battleford and worked at the Coca Cola plant again. Ben moved to Meadow Lake, SK in 1963 and bought a dry-cleaning business, which he ran for a couple of years. He then bought the Sportsmans Grill (a truck stop and diner), which he owned and operated for 8 years, then he bought Parkland Motors (a Datsun dealership and garage). Ben met Sharon Schliekelman soon after moving to Meadow Lake and were married in 1966. They had two children, Brenda Lee and Derrick James. The family moved to Prince Albert in 1977, where he was part owner in PA Bottlers (a Coca Cola bottling plant) as well as PA Aviation & Flying School, where he worked until his retirement in 1996. Ben was an avid fisherman and loved spending time at their cabin up north at Little Amyot Lake. He also loved to tinker and would spend a lot of time fixing things and could make something out of anything, which was why some family members liked to refer to him as “MacGyver”. Ben is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Brenda (Lauran) Ewanchyna, son Derrick (Sherri) Hauser, grandsons Cooper & Will Hauser, beloved cousins Willie (Judy) Kuffert and Alex Kuffert as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Alexander Hauser, his mother Martha Schafer, sister Gertrude Williams, brother Art Hauser, mother-in-law Mildred Schliekelman, father-in-law Douglas Schliekelman, brothers-in-law Carl and Wayne Schliekelman, sister-in-law June Kain and brothers-in-law Murray McMillian and Lorne Kain. Ben passed away quietly and peacefully at home, just the way he wanted with his family around him.
