1944 – 2016
On June 8, 2016, our mom, grandmother and aunt, Barbara Guimond, finished the final chapter of her life on the 6th floor of the Victoria Hospital. Her story began on a snowy day in January. She would be the first of two children. Her childhood stories always included her brother, Glen. In her teen years, she lived in BC, worked at the Sancta Maria House and was in the Army Reserves. She later moved back to Prince Albert and worked at the Holy Family and Victoria Hospitals. During that time, she became a mother to the first of three daughters. She worked at the Pulp camps in the kitchens, where she met and married her husband and had her second daughter. Several years later, a third and final daughter arrived. Once her daughters were older, she decided to go back to school and finish her grade 12, later continuing on with training to become a Special Care Aid and finding employment at the Herb Bassett Home, a career she enjoyed and was proud of. Our mom had a strong Roman Catholic faith. She enjoyed people and visiting. She loved to spend time telling stories of her life and took great pride in doing so. Left to continue telling her stories are her daughters, Georgia Guimond and Natalie (Terry) Guimond, her grandchildren, Frost Salgado and Minghella Coates, her nephew, James (Gwen) Clyke and his daughters, Shelby and Addison, and we can’t forget her cat, Lilly. Mom believed that she would go to Heaven and be reunited with her mother, Betty Clyke, her father, Ben Clyke, her little brother, Glen Clyke, and her cat, Beezly. Mom, we love you and we will miss you. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s name to Sainte-Anne de Beaupre Basilica, 10018 Avenue Royale, Quebec, Canada, G0A 3C0. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016, at River Park Memorial Chapel. Barbara’s Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, FatherTravis Myrheim officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of the Last Supper, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Memorial Chapel, Paula Hanson, Funeral Director.
