Barbara (Barb) Leigh Lacey Dec. 31, 1950 – Oct. 24, 2022
No one loved Christmas more than Barb! For the first Lacey Christmas in Prince Albert, Barb made sleigh and reindeer tracks in the back yard for the younger siblings.
Barb Lacey Design, Calgary, created Christmas with large scale installations for Calgary office towers, malls and the Banff Springs Hotel. Barb designed larger than life angels, Father Christmases, and tree decorations. Her head elf, husband Digger (William Hawkes), Lacey parents and a crew, created the magic. Melt-in-your-mouth shortbread from Barb’s kitchen was served to all who were present at the installation of Christmas decor. Digger and son, Blake, keep a permanent red tree in Barb ‘s memory.
Barb graduated from P.A.C.I., and was known for her outstanding decorating for the annual variety night. Following high school, Barb worked for Eatons, PA. as a display designer. She went on to do this work in Toronto and Calgary before forming her design company. While in Toronto and with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders in the 1972 Grey Cup in Hamilton, Barb created a large scale banner to cheer on our team. Field officials allowed Barb, her crew and the banner onto the field, believing it was an “official” entry. The P. A. Lacey’s were thrilled to see the Barb Banner on television!
Barb was born to parents Lorna and Bill Lacey, Dec. 31, 1950. She has four siblings: older brother Bill (Germaine Lacey)) and is survived by Cathy (Don Dashchuk), Ron Lacey (Kelly Lacey), and Brent (Wilma Lacey). She is also survived by her beloved aunt, Marcella Van Nes. Blake and Barb shared a strong mother-son bond and many creative childhood adventures.
