Art Grewcock
March 6, 1929 – January 21, 2016
Art is remembered by his daughter Rey, son-in-law Neal and his joy granddaughter Sydney. He is survived by his sister Myra and brother Ivan (Jean); sister-in-law Ileen (Grant) and brother-in-law Bill (Mabel); along with so many loved family members and close friends. Dad was predeceased by Mom (Dolly) in 2011; as well as his parents William and Edith; his twin brother Bill, brothers Victor and Chuck and sisters Mavis, Mabel and Dora. Dad was born the “older twin” on the family farm in the Iranistan District near Birch Hills. He liked to reminisce about all the adventures and trouble he and Bill would get themselves into as kids. He liked to tell the stories about the family dog going to school with them in the one room schoolhouse, and how during the war, the Tiger Moth planes would give them a bit of a show and land in the field next to the schoolhouse. Dad moved to B.C. for a short time to work in the smelting plant with his two brothers, but P.A. seemed to call him back. He started driving a semi with STC and this began a 29+ year career of 3 a.m. trips up to La Ronge. Dad went on to drive for Scott National and Burns and that was late night trips to Saskatoon and back. Dad was always happy to be in the big trucks, and he often said he was meant to be on the road! Mom and Dad married in May 1958 and they settled in on the acreage on 40th Street that became the go-to place for family and friends. Although it was very small, it was huge when they hosted the famous Grey Cup parties, the New Year’s Eve parties or any softball or bowling windup that came along! Dad was usually the official bus driver for many a softball or bowling tournament and regardless of the passengers and noise, he always got us there and home safe and sound! When Sydney was born she became the light in Dad’s life and the tough truck driver became a softie when it came to her! After Mom passed away Dad’s health and well-being began to be an issue and he moved to Saskatoon in 2015. We are thankful we had so many good years with him and the memories we made together will be with us always. Although he passed away in January he said he didn’t want to have a service in the winter when it was too “darn” cold for people to get out! So he decided it should be in May! Dad, we hope you are driving that big truck you always wanted! AND …. Dear OILERS, For the love of GOD bring home the Stanley Cup sometime soon!! A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Sherry Ouellette officiating. We invite you to bring along a good story or two about Art while we gather to share memories and say goodbye to a good man. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan or a charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
