Archibald Brown
January 23, 1931 ~ March 22, 2025
Archibald “Archie” Daniel Brown passed away peacefully at the Herb Bassett Home, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 94 years.
Dad was admitted to the Victoria Hospital on January 19, 4 days before his 94th birthday. He stayed in the hospital until February 22, when he was transferred to the Herb Bassett Home. We all remained optimistic that dad would make it home, but this world had other plans for dad.
Dad was born in Birch Hills to parents Neil and Louise Brown. Dad was the oldest boy in a family of 6 children.
Dad is survived by his wife of 69 years, Myrtle. Together they raised 5 children on the farm, Bradley; Bentley (Karla) and children Robin, Jasmin and Britt; Merle Lee Ann (Ralph) and children Sarah, Carrie, Drew and Troy; Tammy (Ken) Kacie, Jamie and Jodie; Joni (Garnet) and children Brandi, Lynsey and Clinton. Joni passed away on January 28, 2023.
Dad and mom were gifted with 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Dad attended New England school until grade 8. Before farming full time with his parents’ dad drove truck and helped gravel the “44 Trail”. He worked for Campbell’s Plumbing and Heating for one winter as a plumber. In the spring of 1956 dad and mom moved to the farm where they still live today.
Dad farmed for many years with his parents and many happy days were spent travelling between their farm and ours. We would travel with dad by vehicle, ride our bikes or horses or even sometimes walk.
Mom and dad raised 5 children on the farm and we always felt his love. He taught us how to ride horses, play ball and feed and care for the animals. We learned how to drive vehicles at a young age, skin muskrats, foxes and coyotes. Dad was a master of many skills. He was a carpenter, a plumber, a welder, a mechanic and a teacher of many life skills to all of his family.
We all have fond memories of going to Candle Lake. Dad built the cabin in 1968 and many trips were made hauling lumber and supplies to build it. Often as kids we would ride in the back of the pickup truck to make the trip with him. The lake was where we went every summer for many years – even after we left home. The cabin is still enjoyed by family.
When Grandpa Neil retired from farming Bradley took over and farmed with dad.
Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, the outdoors and visiting with family and friends. Upon retirement from farming, he took up gardening and grew gardens with an abundance of produce. One year he grew a sunflower over 12 feet high. Dad would sit in a chair and watch his garden grow. Dad still drove and picked up the mail in Birch Hills on a regular basis until entering the hospital.
Dad, Grandpa will be missed by all of us left here. But we know our angel Joni will have been there with open arms to greet him as he left us.
Thank you to the hospital and nursing home staff for their care and compassion provided to our dad.
