Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anna Silde (Lima) passed away peacefully, with her children by her side, on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, at Birchview Home, Birch Hills, SK. at 92 years of age. Anna (Annie) was born October 15th, 1930, to Fredrik & Jenny Lima during a snowstorm, on the family farm west of Weldon, SK. She was the second of 5 children. Anna attended school in Weldon. Through her father’s encouragement, she enrolled in Saskatoon Teacher’s College in the fall of 1949. She completed 1 year of schooling in 1950 and then attended summer school the following 2 summers to receive her first class teaching certificate. Anna taught at Fisher School in the Birch Hills area for 6 years. Her classroom was a 1 room schoolhouse that included students from Grades 1 through 8. She also taught at Lake Park School for 1 year.
On August 8th, 1956 Anna married Henry Silde in Weldon, SK. They lived on the Silde family farm northeast of Birch Hills in the Lake Park District, where they raised their 3 children. Henry and his brother Ralph farmed together. Anna and Ruth (sister-in-law) helped on the farm as needed, unloading grain trucks as well as cooking and delivering meals to the field during harvest. Gary and Rudy Silde continue to live and farm there as well. Anna enjoyed gardening, flowers, especially her dahlias by the front window, sewing, making patchwork quilts for her family, and knitting dishcloths, slippers, and socks using wool received from her family in Norway. Anna and Henry traveled to Norway in 1984 and 1990 to visit aunts, uncles, and cousins; these were special trips for her.
Anna attended Lake Park Baptist Church and was blessed through the various pastors and ministries there, especially the senior’s bible study group led by Pastor Brian. Anna was a patient, gentle and caring mother, often helping others when she could. Anna’s strong, unwavering faith and prayers have sustained her family through the years.
Anna Silde will be lovingly remembered by her son Gary Silde; son Marvin (Janet) Silde and their family; Braden Silde, Hannah Silde, Dustan Millis and daughter Leia, Dean Millis, Ben Millis (Alex) and daughter Jacqueline; daughter Lorinda (Richard) Elkin and their family Amy (Jeremy) Isted and daughters Kiella & Neriah; Amanda Elkin, Travis (Taylor) Elkin and son Nolan; her sister Astre Vekved, her cousin Thelma (Larry) Schultz as well as many nieces, nephews and family in Norway.
