Andrew Glen McCormick
(August 7, 1921 – November 9, 2011)
Glen passed peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011. Glen is lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Glenda (Rob) Beattie of Saskatoon, Janet (Brian) Zelensky of Prince Albert; two sons, Don (Bev) McCormick of Kimberley, BC, Grant (Michele) McCormick of Saskatoon; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Marion Taylor of Kelowna, BC and sister-in-law, Mae of Kelowna, BC. Glen was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Nettie (nee Hucul); and five brothers, Roy, Bernard, Patrick, Alexander, and Gillis.
Glen was born in Moose Jaw, SK in 1921. After joining the Canadian Navy, and fighting in the Second World War, Glen started a career with SaskTel. While working in Eston, SK, Glen met Nettie Hucul whom he married in 1950. He transferred to Prince Albert, SK in 1960 and this was where they raised their four children. Glen was very proud and dedicated to his 38 year career with SaskTel. During this time he also volunteered for various clubs most notably the Knights of Columbus.
Glen enjoyed all sports but his first love was golf. Glen was a scratch golfer and he was able to enjoy this passion well into his late 70’s. Following his retirement from SaskTel he spent some time as a course marshal at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club. Known as a hard but fair man, Glen will be remembered for his great sense of humour. His quick wit and joking nature was shared with everyone whether at work or in his personal life.
There will be a private celebration of Glen’s life on November 21st, 2011. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan (1231-8th Street East, Saskatoon, S7H 0S5) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279-3rd Avenue N. Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8).
