May 4, 1930 – May 26, 2026
Andrew “Andy” Lozinski, beloved husband of Mary Lozinski (nee Woloshen) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the age of 96 years.
Andy was born in Gilbert Plains, MB, on May 4, 1930. He was the twelfth of thirteen children born to parents, Metro and Anna Lozinski.
Andy moved to Toronto, ON, in early 1950 to work for Northern Electric. He worked for Northern Electric, which became Northern Telecom in 1976, as part of the Installation Team, which had him travelling from Ontario to British Columbia until he retired in 1990. If you named a town in Central or Western Canada, Andy could tell you a story about being there.
Early in his career, Andy was working in Prince Albert, SK, and he went to a local movie theatre. While standing in line with many couples, he found himself standing next to Mary. This was the start of a romance and a marriage lasting more than 72 years. Andy and Mary were married in Calgary, AB, in 1954, and later that year, they settled in Prince Albert, SK, where they raised their three children, Joe, Lola, and Justy.
In 2024, Andy and Mary decided to embark on a new adventure and returned to Calgary to live with their daughter, Justy, and her family. They enjoyed spending time with family, and watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren play and grow.
Andy had a passion for gardening. After he retired, his garden routinely had 200 hills of potatoes, corn, carrots, and all the regular vegetables, but it was his epic tomato plants that had the neighbours talking. Each plant was six feet tall and grew more tomatoes than you could count.
He will be most remembered for his love of gardening all the way into his 90s. Andy could also fix anything and everything his family needed. If Andy came to visit, you had to have a list of projects for him to do. He could tackle any plumbing, electrical, car, or construction project from decks, play tables, sandboxes, and large skating rinks.
Andy was thought about fondly, and he will be greatly missed by his entire family. Andy is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his daughter, Justy (Al) Stark of Calgary, AB; three grandchildren, Jessica (Luke) Goudie, Matthew Stark and Mikaela Stark all of Calgary, AB; and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Violet, also of Calgary, AB. In addition, he is survived by his close niece, Samantha; and nephews, Steven (Heather) and Trevor (Mary) Woloshen and their families, all of Prince Albert, SK. Andy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; his seven sisters; his five brothers; his son, Joe Lozinski; and his daughter, Lola Lubyk.
The family would like to thank the home care attendants and the Palliative Home Care Team who provided compassionate care.
A Private Celebration of Andy’s Life will be announced in the coming weeks.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, www.alzheimercalgary.ca.
