Anastasia (Ann) Marie Hradecki was born on February 20, 1933, in Dorosty, which at that time was part of Poland.
She was born to Czech emigrants Jozef and Maria Holatko whose family emigrated to that area years before. The family immigrated to Canada in 1935 and landed in Halifax after 11 days on the sea. Ann was an only child. The family first settled in Rocanville, SK and eventually followed other family who were living in Henribourg. They bought a farm close to Meath Park and called it home. Now home to Emil and his family. Ann attended Meath Park school in those early days and the stories of the 3 to 4 mile walk to school were plenty, especially in the winter. Ann married Joseph Hradecki in 1950 and moved to a farm close by. They were blessed with three children, Emil, Louis and Irene. Joe and Ann built that mixed farm together. After Joe passed away, Ann stayed on that farm, maintained the yard and garden etc. until her final days. Mom enjoyed her independence even after hip replacement and knee replacement, she stayed on the farm doing the things she enjoyed and helping be the taxi for her farming grandchildren especially during the harvest. Ann was known for her dry wit and her interest in politics among other things. She really enjoyed going to work at her neighbour’s store in Meath Park once a week, here she got to meet with and talk with others.
Ann is survived by her loving family, her sons, Emil (Pat), Louis (Lilliane); grandchildren, Chris (Carrie Ann), Jason (Tracy), Bryan, Lorne; her great grandchildren, Lucas, Landon, Aaron and Benjamin.
Ann is also survived by a special friend who was like a second daughter Daniela Stiak from Vancouver and cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; daughter Irene; her parents, Jozef and Maria Holatko; and Joseph’s parents, Vaclav and Luba Hradecki; her brother-in-law, William Hradecki and relatives here in Canada and in Europe.
Thank you to all who provided her with medical attention on the 5th floor of the Victoria hospital and to Lorne Adams and the team at Beau “Lac” Funeral Home for their kindness and compassion.
