Alphonse Provencher late of Prince Albert formerly of Albertville passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Thursday, February 10, 2011 with his family by his side at the age of 81 years. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 13 from St. Mark Roman Catholic Church. Sister Renée Buliard will officiate. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 14 from St. Mark Roman Catholic Church – 589 – 9th Street East – by Father Tuan Doan. Alphonse is survived by his loving family: his wife Marlene; his children Roland (Donna) of Albertville and their children Daniel, Matthew, Morgan, Riley, Lisa Provencher of Prince Albert and her daughter Breanna, Susan (Kyle) Brown of Prince Albert and their children Devon, Mitchell, Samantha, Dory Provencher of Prince Albert and her daughter Marsha, Debbie (Tim) Swanson of Millet, AB and their children Cynthia, Bryson and Cynthia’s 3 children; his brother Dominique (Denise) of Shellbrook; his brothers-in-law Harvey Dion and Steve Kowal; his sister-in-law Cecile; Marlene’s children Victor (Kim) Grimsrud of Parkside, Dean (Jackie) Grimsrud of Shellbrook, Viola (Dan) Derr of Kilwinning, Valerie (Gilles) Jean of Lloydminster, Nicole Grimsrud of Prince Albert. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Rose (nee Roberge); his wife Giselle (nee Joanette) in 1974; his sisters and brothers Roseanna (Henry) Moffat; Gilberte Dion, Jeannette Ross, Blanche (Bill) Young, Denise (Lyle) Kidd, Yvonne Kowan, Thomas Provencher. Alphonse was born on March 11, 1929 and raised in Albertville. He worked in Port Alberni and also worked on the Kittimat Tunnel in BC. He came home to farm on the family homestead. In 1960 he married Giselle in Aldina near Marcelin and farmed in the Albertville district until his passing. Alphonse will be remembered as the school bus driver for many years. He belonged to the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus as well as the Lion’s Club. In 2000 he married Marlene Grimsrud at St. Marks. Marlene brought great joy to his life and together they shared a passion for fishing, blueberries, volunteering and socializing in the community. Interment will take place at Albertville Cemetery.
