Allan was born December 6, 1922, in Wadena, Saskatchewan to John and Daisy White. He was the fourth of eight children. Allan received his education at Aldergrove school. In 1940 he went to Flin Flon, Manitoba where he worked for a delivery and then for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company.
In 1943 he joined the navy. He took part in the invasion of France and did convoy escort duty. This summer, July 8th, 2024, Allan received the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor. He enjoyed the navy and often said he would like to make it a career, but it was not a married man’s life. When back from the navy he farmed, worked on highways and did bush work.
In 1943 he married Betsy Jacobson and had six children. Betsy passed away in 1958 from cancer. Allan remarried in 1967 to Irene Meyers who had two daughters.
October 1949, he bought and moved to the Jacobson farm and lived there for 69 years. In the fall of 2018 Allan and Irene moved to Living Sky Condo’s in Prince Albert. In 2021 Allan fell and broke his hip which led to his journey from hospital to the nursing home – Mont Saint Joseph’s. He remained a wonderful and thoughtful person who was thankful to all for the help he received. As he became weaker and more tired, he remained the gentleman that he was.
Allan enjoyed life on the farm and served his community on numerous committees such as the hospital board, credit union board, cemetery. He was a member of the Legion, Co-op, Pool and Agriculture Society.
After retiring from farming, Allan’s hobby was restoring old cars, trucks and tractors to their original beauty. He spent hours of hard work on numerous projects.
Allan loved visiting friends and family, playing cards, fishing, gardening, curling, and hockey. He was a hard worker, a good listener and loved all his family!
Irene feels blessed to have been married to Allan for 57 years! He was a lovable, caring man with a great personality. He was the kind of man that was easy to love and was loved by many!
Irene extends thanks to all the family and friends for their support during this difficult time, and for the support and love over the years! Thanks for all the visits and memories made!
We are so thankful for the staff at Mont Saint Josephs, for their kindness and care, and the friends made during Allan’s time there!
A Celebration of Life was held at Smeaton Community Hall on Friday September 20th. Thank you to all who attended. The support of family and friends meant so much to us all!
