Aline Pelletier passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home, at the age of 93 years.
Aline Pelletier, first daughter of Joseph and Cécile (Melançon) Gaudet, was born at home in the Bellevue area on January 11th, 1920. As a child she helped around the house with her brothers and sister and at harvest time it was her job to prepare the toast on the wood stove for the harvest crew. Her schooling was done at the local one room country school. As there were no affordable options for her to continue her education after completing her grade 8 she went to work for neighbouring families who were welcoming home a baby. As a young adult she was off to the big city of Prince Albert where she worked at the Holy Family Hospital and later on she moved to Saskatoon and worked at St. Paul’s Hospital. Aline married Félix Pelletier in 1943 and for a while they lived in Thunder Bay where she worked in a factory building Tiger Moth air planes for the war. Then it was back to the farm in Bellevue where Aline devoted herself to raising her family of seven and enjoying her grand-children.
Félix and Aline shared a passion for travelling and enjoyed exploring many parts of Canada, the United States and Europe with good friends, children and grand-children. Their adventures covered Europe and many parts of Canada and the US. Aline worked for many years in grocery stores in Bellevue, St. Denis and Domrémy. Retiring in Bellevue she continued to garden, bake her famous chocolate chip cookies and travel the province with her daughters well into her seventies. The family offers their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Bellevue Care Home and the Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern, for the wonderful care she received.
Aline is survived by her children: Dennis (Margaret) of Saskatoon, SK, Céline (Louis) Doderai of Saskatoon, SK, Gustave (Connie) of Peterborough, ON, Cheryl Pelletier of Calgary, AB, Rita (Jean-Pierre) Denis of Domremy, SK, and Colette (Daniel) Denis of Domremy, SK; 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, her brothers Claude (Léonie) Gaudet and Clément (Doris) Gaudet both of Victoria B.C., her sister Huguette Savidan of Tsawwassen, B.C., her sister-in-law Annette (Formerly Gaudet) of Penticton, B.C., as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Cécile (Melançon) Gaudet, her husband Félix in 1987, her daughter Janet Pelletier, and her siblings: Alban (Vi), Jean-Marc and Madeleine and Ivano in infancy.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Isidore Roman Catholic Church in Bellevue, SK, on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Phong Tran as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Isidore Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Aline may be directed to the Bellevue Care Home.
