Passed on: November 12th, 2012
Alice Lucille Mann (nee Powley; formerly Herriot) passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Kelowna on her 83rd birthday, November 12, 2012. Born in Readlyn, Saskatchewan in 1929, Alice spent her childhood in Christopher Lake and later moved to Prince Albert to finish high school. She married Doug Herriot in 1949 and spent the first 15 years of married life in FlinFlon, Saskatoon (where children Cathy and James were born), Unity (where sons Kenneth and Donald were born), North Battleford, and finally settled in Prince Albert. There she helped her husband Doug with his business while the marriage lasted. She became involved in archery, golf, and curling while her children finished school.
In 1980 she married Bob Mann and moved to Moose Jaw. In 1990 they retired to Westbank. Sadly, her loving husband, Bob, passed away in 1992. Alice remained in Westbank where she continued to flourish for the next 20 years. She began a life of volunteerism there, first with the Kelowna Soup Kitchen, then with CNIB and finally with Westbank Seniors Lunch. She joined T.O.P.S., Curves, aquafit and ceramics classes, and played bridge. She found time to travel widely: to Hawaii, San Francisco, Cuba, Alaska and Europe.
Busy as she was she always found time for her children, grandchildren and (recently) her great-grandchildren. Above all she taught her offspring by example to enjoy life.
Alice was predeceased by husband Robert Mann, her parents Tom and Christie Powley, brothers Ken and Al Powley, son Ken Herriot, former brothers-in-law Bob and Harold Herriot and niece Evelyn Hall. She is survived by daughter Cathy (Mas), sons James and Donald (Kathy), grandsons Allen (Shawna) and Kiyo, granddaughters Tamiko (David), Jennifer and Sarah , great-grandchildren Payton, Liam, Charlie, Sequoia, and Emily.
Alice was blessed with many loving friends whom she thoroughly enjoyed. Her family would like to thank all who visited her and sent cards and flowers to her at the Kelowna Hospice House. In lieu of other tributes, the family requests donations be made to your local Hospice Society.
