BENSON – Mrs. Alice

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother, Alice Benson on June 25, 2019. Mom was born on July 10. 1922. She was the younger sister of Elsie and Einar. Growing up in town and on the farm gave her many opportunities to learn how to milk a cow, set gopher traps and collect the tails, coil the hay and tramp it down in the hayrack, tend the garden and ski to school. She married Ralph Benson in 1942 and soon had 6 children to raise. On the farm she added to her repertoire, after milking the cows, she either churned it into butter or sold the cream to pay for groceries. She raised chickens and turkeys. She was the family nurse, seamstress and gardener to name a few of her talents. Mom & Dad farmed for 40 years before moving into town where she continued to garden, cook for family and entertain friends.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Ernest (Donna) Benson of Canwood and children, Dion (Madeleine) and their children Brianne (Ben) Schwartz and children, Emma, Alanna, Tessa, and Harrison; Jordan (Amy) and Kyle; Demery (Darla) and their children Shatleigh (Josh), Shendaia, Danika, Corben and Caiden; Shirley Talmey of Saskatoon and children, Penny (Paul) Vogel and their children Holly, Sadie and Ellie; Carlyle; Laverne (Murray) Kelln of Cranbrook, BC; Dalice (Jordan); Dawson (Keri) and their children Mya and Marlo; Barb Benson (daughter-in-law) of Canwood and children, Leeland (Candice) and their children Hadley, Javon and Tyne; Tony (Aleeshia) and their children Anika and Knox; Marion (Keith) Paul of Saskatoon and children, Allison (Guillaume) and their children Rogue and Rafferty; Jaelyn; Lindsey and her children William and Evelyn; Meri Benson (daughter-in-law) of Canwood and children, Chantel (Patrick) Hannington and their daughter Victoria; Sarah (Allen); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alice is predeceased by her parents Ernest & Tilda Johnson; her husband Ralph Benson (2003); her brother and sister Einar Johnson and Elsie Kydland; her two sons, Ronnie Benson (2007) and Gary Benson (2014); her son-in-law Dick Talmey (2018).

There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Alice to be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Canwood Community Hall at 2:00 pm. Memorial Donations may be made in memory of Alice to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
