Alfred was born on May 13, 1948, at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK the fourth child of four and only son to John and Aganetha Unrau. He grew up on a farm in the Lake Four District. There were always chores and time for play when the chores were done. His first year of school was in a small country school, Rapid Bend. The following years were a bus ride to Big River School. Alfred was married in 1981 and they had two children, Ashley and Bryce. Alfred and his wife later separated. Alfred continued living on the farm while working at various jobs; brush cutting, grader operator, etc. Five years later Alfred met Rita. They moved her Care Home Business to the farm where they continued to operate it until their retirement. They moved to Shellbrook in 2019. Alfred passed away on March 17, 2024, in Shellbrook at the age of 75 years.
Alfred is lovingly survived by his partner, Rita Arcand; his children, Ashley Dawn Unrau of Salmon Arm, B.C. and her children, Ashton Cottingham, Bridget Cottingham, and Dre Cottingham; Bryce John Unrau (Jaydene) of Black Falls, Alberta; Rita’s children, Judy Arcand (Clark Remenda) and children, Tanya (Mike), Sara (Devin)and children Dominic & Darren, Jonathan, Josh; Cory Arcand and his children, Kennedy, Kolby, and Kayden; Alfred’s siblings, Sydnee Ward (Sinclair) of Leduc, Alberta, Marlene Herdman of Debden, SK, Esther Gear of Shellbrook, SK; Rita’s siblings Evelyn Neufeld, Raymond (Colleen) LaPlante, Wilson (Rita) LaPlante, Angeline Boyer, Gerald (Rose Marie) LaPlante, as well as numerous nieces, nephews.
Alfred is predeceased by his parents, John and Aganetha Unrau; his brothers-in-law, Bob Herdman, Garry Gear, Larry LaPlante (Louise), Andy Neufeld; and his nephew Sheldon Ward.
There will be a Celebration of Life held for Alfred on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. from the Shellbrook Seniors Hall with Delores Beaulac as officiant. Alfred will be laid to rest at a later date in the Lake Four Cemetery.
