KORA, Alex
Date of death: September 20, 2013
With profound sorrow, we say goodbye to our dearly loved husband, father and grandfather. Alex passed away in Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on September 20, 2013.
Alex was born in 1922 in Hungary. His parents immigrated to Canada when he was a toddler and eventually settled in the Spiritwood area where Alex was raised. He spent almost all of his years there, with the exception of when he and his wife were working out in Ontario.
Alex met Magdolene Horvath at Temesvar School and they married in 1947. He had made a down payment on some land south of Spiritwood and the young couple needed to raise money to pay it off. To do so, they spent several years in Ontario at Alex’s sister and brother-in-law’s place. There they worked in the tobacco fields, planting, priming and picking tobacco. It was a back-breaking job, but one that earned good money. While in Ontario, son Alex, and daughter Violet, were born.
With years of hard work, they were finally able to pay off the land where their house is still located. It was after their return to Saskatchewan that daughter Pearl was born.
Alex engaged in mixed farming all of his working years. He was never afraid of hard work and was considered a good farmer until his retirement many years ago. Alex’s heart belonged to his farm and he was able to stay there until his passing at the age of 91.
Alex is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Magdolene, his son Alex, daughter Violet Akers (Dave), and daughter Pearl Kora (Terry Caudle). He is also survived by grandchildren Darren Vallee (Heather) along with their three children, and Tammy Vallee (Dean Carruthers) along with her three children. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews that live in Ontario.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Josef and Roza Kora, along with four siblings, Joseph, Mary, Rosie and Johnny.
A graveside service was held for Alex on Thursday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Spiritwood Cemetery.
For those wishing; donations may be made in honor of Alex to the Prince Albert Branch of S.P.C.A.
