Albina passed away peacefully at Wheatland Lodge in Leask, SK on February 28, 2020, at the age of 93. She was born June 5, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois to Albert and Elizabeth (nee Bjelcik) Travnicek. Her family came to Canada and obtained a homestead in the Cookson District, north of Shellbrook. She lived in a one-room log cabin along with a family of 5. At the age of 15 she started to work for the neighbors in housekeeping where she met Carl Palm while he was hunting in the area. They married in May of 1943 and raised 4 children on their farm south of Shellbrook in the Hazelridge District. On the farm she cared for her milk cows, raised chickens, and a large garden and helped side by side with their farming endeavors. She loved to crochet, knit and sew. She was active in the local Hazelridge School. She and her family faithfully attended the Pentecostal Church and were active founding members of that congregation. In 1985 they retired to their newly built home in Shellbrook. After’s Carl’s passing in 1997 she later moved to Heritage Place on Adamson Road, Prefontaine Assisted Living, then to Rose Gill Lodge in Rabbit Lake, returning to Lily’s Lodge in Shellbrook. Eventually, as her health failed, she moved to Wheatland Lodge in Leask. She had and enjoyed her many friends throughout her life and most recent friend, Flora, in the nursing home.
Albina was predeceased by an infant daughter Lois, her husband Carl, her siblings Albert Travnicek, and Ann Palmer (Bruneau), her daughter-in-law Judy and great-grandson, Dominic Schutte. She is survived by a brother, Stanley Travnick, her children, Joan (Leslie Balla), Eddy, Danny (Jane), David (Lorette), 14 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
