It is with much love and immense sadness that the family of Albert Folmer announce his passing on February 21, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Villas. Bert was born June 7, 1928 in Portage La Prairie, MB. As a toddler he relocated with his family to the Fanford / Steep Creek area. He was a proud farmer and egg producer and won several awards for his efforts. It was on the farm that him and mom raised their three daughters and where he lived until retiring to Prince Albert. Dad loved to garden, curl, golf, dance, play cards and spend time with his friends and family. He had a keen, often irreverent sense of humor and loved a good joke or prank. He was a strong supporter of cooperatives and sat in a variety of positions locally for more than 30 years. He was also a delegate for Federated Co-op and he received the Saskatchewan Co-operative Certificate of Merit in 1993. Dad was also a lifetime member of the Lions Club and spent many hours volunteering with them. He also sat on the Saskatchewan Commercial Egg Producers Marketing Board. Bert will be joining his wife of 58 years, Beverley (nee Bell) who left us in 2011 and his daughter Debbie Brooker who we lost in 2007. He was also predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Hendrika Folmer; his in-laws Harvey and Lillian Bell; his twin brother Dick; sisters-in law Rose Folmer, Norma Keefe and Gwen Bell and brothers-in-law Keith Bell and Keith Love. Bert is survived by his children Sandra (Roland Forest) and their children Ryan (Krissy) and Kymberley (Carlin Gall) and his great grandson Everett; Linda (Ron Fisher) and their children Rayna (Brahm Enslin) and MacKenzie; and his son-in-law Keith Brooker. Also left to mourn his passing are his sisters, Dorothy (Alastair MacIsaac) and Mary Love; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Audrey and Ian Hendry; brother-in-law Leonard Keefe (Mary); as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members across Canada and in the Netherlands. We would like to acknowledge the exceptional care Dad received from Pat Chuey and the staff at Good Shepherd Villas where he has resided for the last several years. From kitchen, to housekeeping, recreational staff and his health care team just know you are all angels and made Dad feel so loved. We are forever grateful. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Private Family Interment to take place prior to the service. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations to the Good Shepherd Villas, 1499, 15th Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 7S1 or to the Parkinson Society of Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9 are welcomed.
